Summary POSITION SUMMARY: This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Group Exercise Instructor position at the Valley Shore YMCA instructs group classes in a safe, enjoyable, and positive environment that welcomes people of all skill and fitness levels and builds community.

Duties ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: - Develops and maintains high levels of customer service with members and guests by enthusiastically and genuinely greeting members and anticipating their needs.
- Plans, prepares and leads energetic, fun and safe group classes
- Maintains working knowledge of trends and practices to guide and support class participants and to help members understand and achieve their goals.
- Takes full responsibility for resolving problems that may arise such as space, equipment, and concerns member concerns.
- Performs administrative functions such as class attendance, time records, payroll,other record keeping with timeliness, completeness and accuracy.
- Communicates effectively with Wellness Coordinator and peers
- Attends staff trainings and meetings to be current with YMCA policies, procedures and practices to support class participants
- Other tasks and projects as assigned

Requirements QUALIFICATIONS: - Required certifications: CPR, First Aid, AED, national certification (ACE, NETA, AFAA, NASM) in group fitness instruction or YMCA Foundations of Group Exercise certification.
- Certification in areas of expertise (e.g. to teach yoga you must have a 200 hour certification)
- At least one year of experience teaching group wellness classes preferred.
- Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments
- of the community.

- The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud ? depending upon suitability for the class.
