Job Description and Duties

While this position supports CPRIO, it is located in the Hiring and Pre-Employment (HPE) Section of ECS. Under the HPE Staff Services Manager (SSM) II, the SSM I is the first line supervisor for a group of analysts providing hiring, recruitment, certification, and C&P services to CPRIO.  The SSM I ensures staff performance measures are met; provides effective supervision, training, and technical direction to analytical staff in the administration of the State’s C&P plan and personnel management functions; plans and distributes workload and sets priorities; provides technical advice and consultation to CPRIO staff and managers in the interpretation and application of hiring, recruitment, certification, and C&P policies and procedures; personally handles the most sensitive and complex problems;  acts as a liaison with various control agencies; contributes toward achieving the Department’s goals of workforce excellence and organizational effectiveness; models and instills the Department’s core values of integrity, accountability, collaboration, and employee well-being; and acts in the absence of the Section Chief as necessary.  This position requires the use of Human Resources Technology Success (HRTS) and the Business Information System (BIS) for many daily activities.

Individuals who are eligible for a Training and Development (T&D) assignment may also be considered for this position.

The California Department of Corrections Rehabilitation (CDCR) Headquarters has implemented a new automated system to streamline the hiring process. The Human Resources Technology System (HRTS) is an intuitive, user-friendly system that provides the applicant access to real-time updates throughout the hiring process. HRTS will require new candidates to set up an account, which allows them to track their application’s progress. Through their account portal, candidates will also be able to provide any additional information needed in the hiring process, including setting up interviews as needed. After the final filing date, applicants will receive an email from DoNotReply@cdcr.ns2cloud.com or DoNotReply@CDCR (depending on the email provider), with direction on creating and/or accessing their account.

Working Conditions

The position(s) is eligible for hybrid telework, with employees required to work in-person at least two days per week, in accordance with the Statewide Telework Policy and will be required to report to the office as needed/required. Effective July 1, 2025, all employees will be required to work in-person at least four days per week.  The successful candidate must reside in California upon appointment. 

Regular and consistent attendance is critical to the successful performance of this position. You must be regularly available and willing to work the hours necessary to meet business needs.
