Job Description

 

Summary

Prepares and delivers relevant and current curriculum using a variety of teaching methods and standardized assessment tools that accurately reflect effectiveness of course content

 

Essential Job Functions

  • Measures student understanding of course content
  • Maintains accurate records of student attendance, academic achievement, and performance in accordance with university policies and procedures
  • Distributes to each student, in each course, a university approved syllabus that includes course objectives, texts, attendance policy and materials required for course and evaluation criteria
  • Communicates early with any student in danger of failure or in need of individual counseling
  • Refers students to appropriate university sources for information, guidance, financial assistance, career development, etc.
  • Performs other duties as assigned  

 

Required Qualifications

  • Master’s degree or greater in criminal justice, criminology or a related field of study from a regionally accredited institution, or other appropriate accreditation as determined by Johnson & Wales University
  • Five or more years of professional experience working in criminal justice or in other related work 
  • Established record of or demonstrated potential for excellence in teaching and research
  • The ability to teach an array of criminal justice courses in the program
  • Successful candidates must be committed to working effectively with diverse student populations

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with teaching 
  • Ability to teach during daytime hours

Qualified candidates must live or relocate within a daily commuting distance of the Providence Campus location upon hire.
